When US Data is selected, the default ranges that are showing in the legend are calculated based off of the data at the national level. In certain situations, this can make it difficult to understand trends at a more localized level. That is why we added Map Extent, which is our newest feature. When Map Extent is selected, it calculates the ranges based on the extent of your window. In other words, it's counting the geographies that are within your window and creating the ranges based off data from only those geographies. What this means is that the ranges are more relevant to your area, and it can allow you to see how certain neighborhoods are much different than other neighborhoods at a localized level. As you zoom in and out the ranges will automatically update based on what is in your window.
